Despite being one of the largest and most active global suppliers and
distributors of cork items, Jelinek Cork Group is always aware of its
social responsibilities as well as its responsibility to the environment.
We
want your Natural Corks!
Cork
is an amazing natural material that is 100% reusable and recyclable. An
estimated 100 million corks will be discarded in Ontario this year.
From 2005 to December 2006, Jelinek Cork Group assisted the Ontario Girl
Guides in diverting over 5 tonnes of cork bottle stoppers in Ontario.
That is approximately 1.6 million cork bottle stoppers! Though the Bag-a-Cork
program has ceased operations in Canada, Jelinek Cork has recognized a
continued need to recycle natural cork stoppers and has created a new
recycling initiative - "We want your natural corks". More
Information?
Only natural cork bottle stoppers have the ability to be recycled, therefore,
synthetic stoppers cannot be placed in a collection bin. A common misconception
is that people recycle cork stoppers because there is a “shortage”
of cork. This is incorrect. In fact, there is enough cork in the regulated
Mediterranean cork forest to last for another 100 years without needing
to grow another tree! We are simply diverting waste from landfill sites
as there are so many other uses for this wonderful natural product.
